The book is a collections of articles concentrated on cultural aspects of psychoactive substances and alternative states of consciousness. Authors, coming different academic and methodological background (psychology, sociology, literature studies, philology, religious studies, history, anthropology), present various cultural phenomena connected with drugs and ASC, from psychological and sociological factors connected with the usage of psychoactive substances, anthropological studies on drugs (Betel, Ayahuasca), ASC in cultural and religious practices (esoteric traditions, folk culture, meditation, yoga and tantra) to narcotic themes present in literature (Witkacy, contemporary Polish poetry, Avital Ronell’s theory).
